I'm having a hard time wraping my head around this band. Are they trying to be thrash? Traditional metal a la maiden and priest? My best guess is a weird mash up of the two. Either way this album has flashes of brilliance, as in the riffs and solos and the song freedom fighter is just awesome

Unfortunately, Ravage will have an uphill battle in bringing back old-school metal. Al Ravage's mid-range vocals will cause many to scratch their heads, as most people are so used to emo-wailing, screaming or letting Cookie Monster take the mic. There also seem to be few out there who remember back when metal was about riffs and solos, both of which are plentiful on this album. Yes, the album is old-school - nothing wrong with that, since 80's style metal with its many sub-genres was and still is superior to most of the stuff being cycled out today. As for the band's "craft", they have been playing together since the mid 90's and have been very serious in their musical mission. As for me, I've never had a mullet or a Trans-Am, but I certainly remember back when metal was worth listening to, and I salute Ravage for attempting to bring it back to where it belongs... The only real weakness is that the four best songs on "TEoT" IMHO were the same four they had previously released on the 2008 Freedom Fighter EP. Having already heard "FF", it took a few spins for me to warm up to the other songs. If I had to pick my least fav song, it would be "Into The Shackles" or "In Shattered Dreams", but even these are 3 1/2 to 4 out of 5 stars. Had a chance to see these guys live last fall and they rocked in spite of the crappy sound system at the place. Cool guys to talk to also. Do them a favor and buy this album - they will need the money to get themselves a more reliable tour van next time!

First of all, don't listen to the review by "antman54", he has a malicious relationship toward the band and is only trying to sabatage their album sales. Secondly, I have been listening to this band for years and this album is INCREDIBLE! Loud, fast and a perfect mix of NWOBHM and Thrash which results in a very cool and fresh sound. It's really nice to see Metal Blade sign a band that has a traditional metal sound without the influence of radio-friendly sounds. The singer has a gruff voice which is an awesome contrast to the melodic guitars. Drums are perfect but the only gripe I have is that the bass doesn't have enough presence. I am really impressed with this album considering the recording quality of Ravage's previous album, "Spectral Rider" which has some great songs, but, as I said, could use some better recording. This albums title track is my favorite... really an epic piece that goes on for 6 and a half minutes, but I wish it was longer. And you don't get much better of a thrash sound that "The Shredder". I'd also like to give a nod to "Reign Fall" and "Into the Shackles" as my "almost favorite's". Please buy this album! Ignore what that other guy said and give these guys a chance, I'm certain you won't be disappointed. And, to be honest, I've only seen these guys play live a few times and they ALWAYS play the best song, which I believe is decidedly (by many reviewers and listeners) "Grapes of Wrath". Also, kudo's to Ravage on the new drummer, that kid is way better than the last guy they had.

this band will not play there best song live. but they keep sending it out to pump up there name. i dont get it. the bands lead singer has no stage presence at all. they need to make some big time changes with a new lead signer..
