I have been a huge Junior fan since 1990 when I first stepped into the doors of the now infamous Sound Factory. That experience changed my life. Back then Junior's marathon sets were over the top. Although I dj'ed a lot of clubs in NYC I still made time every Saturday to make it to Sound Factory to hear him play those amazing Loleatta Holloway and First Choice samples over deep house with all the drag queens vogueing and doing runway. It made me want to be a better DJ and getting a chance to mmet Juniot back in 1991 was the pinnacle of my DJing career. It was always a mystery of hearing tracks like get your hands off my man on that sound system. It will never be duplicated and the vibe was one of a kind. I will never forget it as long as I live. Junior is and always will be the queen of clubland. But it's 2009 and times have really changed. And so has Junior.
I know he's been doing it for a long time (the man is in his 60's) and still one of the nicest guys I have ever known but his music has gotten pretty soft over the past few years. Even for Junior, this mix is a bit of a disappointment. A lot of the artists on here are very weak (especially Bimbo Jones) and Junior's mixing style is long lost. This CD lacks the power Junior usually has over dance floors and the killer mixing and production even I am used to. Even a great track like Whispered Prayer is cut down to a 1 minute brief mix in. And DJ DeMarko's remake of Drop A House (even though mixed by Razor N Guido) is pretty weak (the vocals lack) and Junior did nothing to enhance them ( in my head I heard reverb and panning on that one). The on e saving grace of the mix is Nick Harvey. Junior did take the time to carefully mix his tracks together and make a hot mix between tracks 4 and 5.
Junior is a legend and thats why I give this 3 stars. No one will ever be Junior or come close to how legendary he is but this is pretty fluffy for me. If you want some real hardcore Junior see the man in action. His live sets are massive and unbelievable and very monstrous. For me to say this is a bit of a let down is hard. For those of you who are into Junior this is a must have. For the rest of us who really know Junior well (especially after I can say I spent every Saturday between 1990 and 1998 going to hear Junior) this is a pass. If you can find it back in 1994 Tribal America put out a CD called This Is Tribal America Volume 1: Junior Live At Sound Factory that is the real Junior.
amazing.

I own every Junior CD, so you can imagine I was excited to see that he has a new CD. His style is about layering of sounds, truly what DJ'ing is all about. Bravo!!!
Junior delivers.

It's high quality. The mixing is seamless. Makes me eager to get in some great club nights this summer.
My top tracks are "Tribal Massive," "Insecurities," and "Sundays At Heaven."
I am really eager to drive to this.
