  • Go Champlin!

I am VERY disappointed that Bill Champlin will not be with Chicago anymore (I just found out about that yesterday), but I choose to look at this as an opportunity to hear even more music from my favorite artists, as they are doing different things as solo artists (Champlin, Lamm, Cetera, etc.). I have not actually heard this album, but I know it has to be very good (I rated it five stars because everything Bill Champlin does is five stars, and I assume this is as well, and because I had to rate it to submit my "review"), since I have noticed for a long time that the Champlin music has generally (not always) been the most interesting of Chicago's new output. I am excited to hear Bill Champlin with Peter Cetera again, as well as his solo version of Look Away. Ever since I found out yesterday that Champlin had left Chicago I have been googling for info about it, and actually stumbled across some rumors that Lamm and Cetera are considering doing some writing together. I definitely hope that is true. And, if Bill Champlin or anyone else who has been or is currently a member of Chicago actually reads this, I would like to give best wishes to Bill Champlin (I will miss hearing your talents combined with Lamm and Scheff, et al, though) and to Chicago with Lou Pardini. If there is at some point a farewell tour/concert for Chicago (perish the thought), please have it include in some way those who have left (Champlin, Cetera, Seraphine, Dacus, Bailey, etc...maybe even Kath himself in some way), and put aside any differences for a glorious end to a glorious legacy. I said if, because I hope that Lamm, Scheff, Pankow, Loughnane, Parazaider, Howland, Imboden, and now Pardini, keep Chicago alive and exciting for a very long time to come. LONG LIVE CHICAGO!!!!!!!!

Great vocals and words. Songs have alot of soul and you can really feel the music. Reminds me of the good ole days when real musicians wrote real music.

I have always wondered what taking an advanced course in songwriting would be like; now I know. Listening to Champlin's "No Place to Fall", and you get a sense of what real songwriting is. Every track is unique in its own way. Fans of riff-based blues guitar should check out "Angelina" or "Lover Like That". Do you like R&B based jazz, with a "Take 6" flair? Try "Never Let Go". Chicago fans will love the theme and variations on "Look Away", as well the horn licks in "Stone Cold Hollywood". "All Along" is a great piano-driven, soul searching ballad. I could go on, but I know that you find every track worth the money. Download the whole album!

I became of Bill Champlin fan the first time I heard "Sara", in 1981. He has a distinctive soulful voice that grows on you more & more, after listening to each track. Never let go & Never Been Afraid are already in heavy rotation on my ipod, along with Stone Cold Hollywood, and Tuggin on your sleeve. It's a crying ashame that great artists like Bill can't get airplay, in this "rap" radio culture. Thank you Mr. Champlin for another fine album.

Bill has nailed it out of the park with his latest release. He takes on a swampy journey with Tuggin on your sleeve, then a host of bluesy tunes, especially the spicy Angelina (make it happen to ME!) and I want you to stay. Then he hits the ballads with an Acoustic Look Away and a guest spot with Cetera on Never Been Afraid. Finally, he drives it home with an urban Take 6 -like performance on Never Let Go. There's more of a quartet feel here, where Bill take the commanding lead, and his gritty vocals are spot on from start to finish. A great piece of work and a refreshing change from what's on the radio. Now, if we could only get him and his 3 pals on the road.....

I've been waitin for this one. Tell you what, no one in the business puts it together like Bill. On his own or with his band, the Sons of Champlin, he is simply the finest musician out there. I love every tune on this and haven't been able to put it down since I got it last week. Bill is in his own genre and whether you like rock, funk our soulful tunes you will not be disappointed. Thanks Bill!
