  • Classic but not my favorite

My error not listening to more samples before purchasing. I regret the purchase. Great list of the treasured hymns so hard to find. They are preformed more like short fast versions in a hurried presentation and most are seasoned with an overpowering soprano with a warbling voice that is not my favorite. The best ones the wobbly one is held back. I am an artist and musician and music is my constant and my iTunes is larger than most; in my excitement of finding these old treasured hymns, I jumped too fast in this purchase. I doubt I will play this again Twenty min has done me in. If the soprano was contained it might have been more palatable.
  • HORRIFIC SINGER

Horrific! One Screaming female ruins nearly every song with her "Aretha Franklin" impersonation. A sacrilege. What will they do next; a rap version of the classic hymns?
  • Aweful choir

This choir had nor reason for even existing. It has no place on iTunes. They are terrible and untrained.

I can't believe that christians sing like this. I've been a christian for 40 years and these brethren sound dead. This music has no life in it. You can't even sing along. If they are supposed to be praising God where is the thier spirit?
  • Surprisingly Hard to FInd

I have looked for some time for a collection that was comprised of songs from earlier revivals sung and played as they were when the Spirit moved. I am somewhat puzzled that this body of music cannot be played without modernising it or making excuses about how modern music falls short of the mark. What is modern, anyway? :-) Thanks to the SGCS.
  • Only 2 verses?!

Wow, I am really disappointed. Sure, you get a sampling of 100 best loved hymns, but if I would have known I was only getting the abridged versions, I would have continued looking. I suppose it's still a lot of music for the price, but I just wish I would have known I wasn't getting full-length hymns :(
  • Timeless and beautiful!

A must have. . . Very beautiful. It takes me back to when I was a young Christian and a Church that I used to attend! Need no worries, I am still a worshiper of Jesus, and I still love him even more than ever! But it is this music that you can feel the presence of the Holy Spirit especially now when you hear a watered down gospel in contemporary Christian music! These songs have widthstood the test of time!

I am glad for so many hymns in one album. There is something about the old hymns that comfort, assure and bless. I do not however like the female soprano soloist--bad news!! I skip those songs. Good price, too.
  • A very appreciated and hard-to-find album!

I'll be the first to say there are some really good, young, contemporary Christian artists out there doing some great music. But there are times I really want to listen to the old hymns the way they were meant to be heard. While I enjoy much of the modern music, I find it very sad that so many modern churches have abandoned traditional songs to appeal to and draw younger attendance. Sometimes it is simply distracting, repetitive and the focus seems to be more on the music and entertainment than on worship. This is a wonderful collection of old-fashioned, Spirit-filled hymns not rocked out, "updated", over-produced or compromised. I picture a little wooden, country church with dear brothers and sisters in the Lord, mature in their faith, strong in their commitment and stronger in their assurance, whose only desire is to truly worship our Lord and Savior in a manner done in years past and by the founding fathers. Corny maybe, but anyone who has actually been in a little wooden, country church will know what I'm talking about. Maybe not for all the time but when that time comes it is really nice to have this, thank you.
