This is a great collection that chiefly represents his early work. His rich tenored-voice is non-parleil with any other from any other country or any language. Naturally, ballads serve him best, and classics like "Silencio," "Por si volvieras," and "Voy a perder la cabeza por tu amor" ache with the heartfelt depth of this master interpreter. There are a couple of his signature upbeat songs that are great to dance to but never become as cheesy-Vegas as his more recent attempts at dance music: "Pavo real" & "Agárrense de la manos." That being said, there is a clunker from his worst-received album, a duet with José José, Torero, that wasted their talent on a paint-the-lyrics-by-number time filler. Given that this is mainly older music, it may not be the best selection to start a JLR collection. His telenovela-themed ballad aside, "Sueño contigo," there are some amazing ballads recorded from the late 80s to the 00s that deserve their own place in history. Gracias Puma por habernos regalado una historia de música y sentimientos verdaderos de la profundidad de tu corazón.
  • A Must-Have Collection of Pure Latin Passion!!

Whether or not you are Latin, if your heart burns unapologetically with unbridled passion and romanticism, you will doubltless LOVE "La Historia del Puma." This well-assembled collection of his greatest hits is quite a tour de force in the genre of Spanish-language romantic balladry. One would be hard-pressed to find another exponent of this type of music as satisfying as J.L. Rodriguez. His vocals are searingly passionate without falling into histrionic excess, while each song is lovingly caressed and vivified by his singular and expressive voice. Never will Jose Luis treat these timeless musical gems with the indefferent commercial sameness with which certain other younger and overrated "divos" treat the great classics of Spanish Romantic song.
