I grew up in Alexandria Louisina... and we got the Uniques 4 times a year at the weekly CYO (Catholic Youth Organization) dances. I blame All These Things for my 1st marriage to my High School sweetheart ;)

When I was a teenager, my uncle was a prominate DJ in the East Texas town I lived in and promoted a dance at the old American Legion Hall, featuring the Uniques. Well who better than family to work the dance. I remember meeting and visiting with Joe and he was one of the greatest guys I could have ever met. Their music was really good and was always either played at all dances or "Sock Hops" or covered by all of the bands in the area. One thing I also remember is, Joe wanted to pay me $20.00 and my uncle insisted he was going to take care of my pay. Well, Joe wouldn't hear of it and said "he worked hard for us tonight and he deserves it". well enough said, I walked away rich for an East Texas kid in the 60s, Kroppduster.

I spent my teen years crying, laughing, dancing, and making out to this music. Man, those were the days! I grew up in Springhill, LA - Joe Stampley's hometown...so you know I miss the dances from those warm summer nights.
  • Great Find

Wow, The Uniques... What a GREAT find! I had a copy of All These Things on a 45 record and it was so scratched up that I couldn't listen to it anymore. Then again that type media is so obsolete. I was totally blown away and excited to find this album on iTunes. I grew up in Central, Louisiana and these guys did concerts and of course were played on the radio like crazy. KDixieBS... Oh those were the days!

Like the lady from southwest La, I also grew up listening to the Uniques in Pine Bluff, Ark. Their yearly and sometimes twice yearly dances were always eagerly anticipated. If you didn't have a good time it was your own damn fault. My only regret is not being able to download the album artwork, other than that I am one happy camper. Somewhere in the deep confines of my closet is the Uniques 8 track of these same songs. To be able to download the same music to CD is great.

Having been a teenager in the 60s and 70s in SW La., I grew up on the Uniques, and the pleasure of seeing them in concert once. I played this album as a young woman, and over the years have tried to find the cassette and CD to no avail. I have also checked on itunes many times. I can't believe it's here. If you remember the Uniques, you have to download this album. The quality is not great, but the songs will leave you smiling and dancing.

If you grew up in the South in the 60's, you slow danced to "All These Things". If you don't have a memory of slow dancing to this song, you are not Southern.
