Iโll die

One of the top performers I have always wanted to see was Weird Al. I grew up laughing at his brilliant parodies and interesting original music. Unfortunately, I did not read any reviews on this particular tour, which started in April. I admit I made a big assumption that, regardless of the format, Al would not disappoint. The most exciting part, for me was the prospect of hearing Amish Paradise in the middle of Lancaster county. Nothing could be more poetic. To his credit, this latest tour is called the "The unfortunate return of the ridiculously self-indulgent, I'll-advised, vanity tour" and the teaser specifically states that there would be no props and that he would be playing a bunch of "obscure songs that no one wanted to hear the first time". I just thought he was being funny. In the end, there was very little 'funny' going on Saturday night at the beautiful American Music Theater. I get wanting to showcase some of his more obscure songs and make the point that he's not just a parody performer, but when you go to see McCartney you expect to hear Blackbird. Aside from The Night Santa Went Crazy and a bizarre montage at the end, he played none of the songs I knew and loved. What's worse, I took my entire family to the show. What an embarrassment and a huge waist of money. They say, "never meet your heroes". My suggestion is, unless you are a diehard super-fan who knows every scrap Weird Al has ever sung, avoid this tour. You'd be better off just reminiscing with a playlist, sitting in your car, eating caramel kettle corn you bought at Kitchen Kettle, and playing Amish Paradise with a small tear in your eye....or whatever version of nostalgia works for you. I still love Weird Al, and I still believe he is a genius. He did, however, disappoint me greatly with this latest tour.- some random dude 2022
