This is truly extraordinary music that rewards patience and repeated listening. At first, I dismissed it as kind of simple. Then the inner logic of it began to dawn on me. But slowly, surreptitiously, not at all like a ton of bricks. A quiet revelation, really. Then, first thing I knew, many gems had stealthily floated to the top of my "most played" list: Fugue No. 6 (my personal favorite), Prelude and Fugue No. 14, Fugue Nos. 7, 8, and 16. In my book, this music is right up there with the 15 string quartets.
