Like “Professional Rapper,” as an album this feels a bit scattered and unfocused. There are some fun songs on “Penith” (also, iconic album title, literally Ben Franklin level brilliance with this one), many of which fans of the show were hoping they’d be able to get without having to scour the Tube for lower quality/unofficial versions.
Personally, I’m hoping that we get a true effort comparable to the best of “So Hard,” as well as his debut. While I’m not absolutely in love with this one, it is a grower. My initial sentiment of “meh” gave way rapidly to joy at Dave having actually released something, and familiar content (tracks from the show) at that.
If you like Lil Dicky & DAVE, you’ll likely be able to enjoy this, although I can imagine people who haven’t seen the show would be significantly more underwhelmed. It’s best to go into the listening experience expecting to hear the DAVE soundtrack.
All that said, I wholeheartedly believe in and support Dave Burd as a human and I wish him the utmost success in all he does. I personally came from the world of punk rock—most notably blink-182–and Dicky’s similar fusion of humor and genuine musical talent is what I find most inspiring & attractive here. At his best he is not only hilarious, but also truly gifted and, as he says in “Honestly,” timeless.
Really a let down.

normally i like everything he's put out. they all have a good vibe to them and you want to listen to it again and again but most of these don't even sound like lil dicky tbh or they just aren't enjoyable. 2,3,4,5,6,7,11,19 are the good ones i guess

Mr. Burd is cookin again! If you’re a fan of rap that paints a vivid picture/tells a story that you feel like you’re in and/or love clever lyrics/wordplay, this album is for you. It really feels like an appetizer to something bigger coming, but it’s delicious nonetheless.
