What is there to say it's Vern a pillar of the genre standing with the rest and rightfully so.

This album has all the best old time classics. Country music the way it's suppose to be. I know the words to every tune takes me back to a simpler life.

My mom died earlier this year. While I was driving home from work, "Chiseled in Stone" was playing on our classic country station. I started crying so hard I had to pull off. They didn't call Vern Gosdin "The Voice" for nothing.
  • It's a shame I just found his music.

Today I heard today my world slipped away and for a second I thought is that George Jones. Then I was like no it can't be that isn't his song and figured out it was Mr. Gosdin. He sounds a lot like him but has his own voice too. I love his voice and look forward to listening to the rest of his songs. George Strait just put on his new album Today My World Slipped Away. I find it very cool that the more I think I know about all the country music artist the more I start to learn and find people that I have never even heard of. I really enjoy Kenny Rodgers, Keith Whitley, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Reba McEntire, Tanya Tucker, and now Vern Godsin.
  • The Voice of real Honky Tonk

This was the voice that George Jones said was his favorite. It is easy to see why with this excellent collection of 10 great songs. There's real emotion in every note, particularly on "chiseled in stone" and "do you believe me now". The great Vern Gosdin will be missed. They don't make them like this anymore.

Little known fact of music history: Scott Haycock of the The Accomplices based his classic, "You Don't Have to Break My Heart," on Vern's so-classic-it's-scriptural "Chiseled in Stone." "Based" meaning he figured out the chords to "Chiseled" then rearranged them to fit the melody he had in mind, and alluded to the precursor in the lines: "You don't have to break my heart/ I can break my own/ I'll just smash it/ on your heart of stone."

Not only was Vern a great singer, but a great musician, and song writer. I was lucky enough to actually meet and talk with Vern several times and there was no one nicer. He had no airs at all and even helped his road crew unload and load his equipment when he played at our club. If you have never listened to his gospel albumn that he did with his brother, then you really should listen to that. It's amazing. He told me his brother sang on it and had died back years ago. He gave me a gift of an autographed copy and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Rest in Peace Vern. We love you and miss you so much. I'm sure that sweet voice is singing in heaven.

He was, is, and always will be one of the greatest voices in country music. These are truly great songs, both in melody and lyric. What a gift to leave behind. Thanks Vern.
