The "Revisited" remake is very good, too.

I love "Jet Sounds"! ....I know that is short and sweet, but why complicate music that works on so many levels. First, it's just "cool". (Miles Davis cool, not Fonzie cool). If the Rat Pack, Francois Truffaut or Jean-Luc Godard were alive and in their primes today, this would be the music playing at their shindigs. Not just that, but for me, this is great "background" music for any occasion. Secondly, it's just "good". (Hugh Hefner's 1960's "Playboy After Dark" good, not "Glee" good). The songs tie modern electronica aesthetic to swanky jazz, with bossa nova rhythms and an Eastern kick to boot. Plus, the songs are independent thoughts that are distinguishable from each other. The first track "Arabesque" is a personal favorite, but all the songs bring something different while still adhering to that hep-cat theme. Nicola Conte took a little world music, a little jazz, and a little Sinatra hubris, fused it with his Italian DJ roots and created this gift. While its certainly no "Pet" Sounds, "Jet Sounds" is an incredible find. This is the kind of album that I love because I feel it was made just for me...and the few others who own it are in our own little club. You had to make an effort to find it and sometimes THAT makes even more fulfilling.

Nicola's gone far, far away from this sound. But at the time, what a treat. This is Italian bossa at it's finest with a heavy Brazilian influence with sampling and a lot of other touches. Pure jet-set, lounge themed soundtrack tunes. Loads of samples and a real nostalgic 60's vibe to the music make this one a classic for just about any decade. Check it out! But be warned - a lot of Nicola's music is much different from this and far more jazz based. If you do like this though, check out what Thievery was doing at around this time as well as others that were into the lounge scene. And you'd probably like a lot of other Schema artists like Rosalia De Souza, Gerardo Frisina, Soulstance, S-Tone Inc. and.. many others. :)

Mix a cocktail, lay back and enjoy. Without question my most listened to album. Dossier Omega could be the next James Bond theme. A must have.

This is one of those CDs that are essential if you are stuck on an island for an unknown period of time. So, all you future Robinson Crusoes should be aware that this IS the definining moment in contemporary nujazz -- a work of musical genius that extends jazz as an art form for the generations new and old. Favorite tracks -- Arabesque, Jet Sounds and Mambo de los Dandies. An Essential album.

I know I already wrote a review, but I have to say, I agree with the other people that this album shouldn't be under electronic, it should be under something like "Samba", "Bossa Nova", or at least Jazz.
  • This album is really cool

I really like this! "Bossa Per Due" and "Jet Sounds" are my 2 favorites. It really shouldn't be under electronic, though.

to those not familiar with the genre.. bossa nova is a unique fusion of the more raw afro-centric energy of samba.. with the hipster jazz and claude debussy loving Rio upper middle class.. which brings its coolness and unique harmonies. like jazz and reggae and blues.. bossa nova has truly become international... with a unique group of Italian record labels and musicians delving deeply into the vaults of 60's bossa nova classics. Nicola Conte is one of those retro-modernists.. who infuses very well edited samples of drum grooves from some very wonderful and somewhat more obscure bossa nova..and grafting new harmonies.. some unique and inspired outside the Brasil paradigm alltogether. Gotta love it... goes down nicely poolside, at any conveniently located W hotel... sipping Capri's.. and slowly basting in the summer sun...
