Like many commentors I really loved PVRIS. I don't feel like the songs from the EP should have been included - maybe Death of Me since it was the first single into this new era, but they don't fit into the story of the album. It seems like a hurdle I have to skip over every time I go to listen to it. Someone said that it seemed lazy, and even though I don't think that it was that malicious, I do think that they shouldn't have morphed the album into an extended of their EP especially now that the deluxe has come out (an extended extended?).
TL;DR on the rest of the album: Some of these songs are okay if you forget their old work (Good to Be Alive, Loveless), but in general there's too much going on sound-wise and yet also moments where it feels empty (Use Me, specifically). and almost stressful, but I don't feel right headbanging it out because it's not rock...it's not pop...it's just not very good.
❤️❤️❤️

Was very upset when I saw the album was delayed for many months but it was pretty understandable for their situations. When I heard the singles (besides the EP add ins) I fell in love and could not wait for the release. I will say when I heard the EP and the singles for Use Me I quickly noticed the album did not sound as rock as they usually sound. When the album I thought correct as I found the album being more dark-popish. At first I was kinda disappointed with the album as it was not what I was expecting.. however quickly overtime I started to really fall in love with it! I wont lie though, it is probably my least favorite out of their 3 albums but that doesn't mean I dislike it. I cannot wait for the deluxe edition coming out soon ❤️❤️❤️
Songs from 1/10 (1 being bad & 10 being good)
gimme a minute - 9
I think i like this song a lot because it's different than a lot of music ive heard? I like how its very subtle and slowish at the start but then it just starts to build and speed up. Very unique.
dead weight - 10 (favorite!)
probably sonically the closest to their older music imo? I love it sonically and lyrically and as with Loveless this song is definitely a favorite.
stay gold - 7
Love it sonically but the lyrics disappoint me as its talking about not wanting to make a song about a person and singing about that person to her fans yet thats kinda what this song is doing at the same time? Im not sure the best way to put it you would have to listen to understand I guess.
good to be alive - 6
I love this song but sonically I was begging for more! I wish there was more it seems underproduced :( but at the same time I think it fits.
death of me - 9
great listen however to me this song and hallucinations almost sound to similar sonically in some ways.
hallucinations - 10
Great listen however like I said it sounds a lot like death of me sonically in some ways.
old wounds - 8
took some time to like but now that im hooked to it im in love.
loveless - 10 (top favorite!)
sonically and lyrically my favorite. I love a good emotional song and this song is very honest and heartbreaking lyrically. Definitely a song I have on repeat.
january rain - 6
Sonically pleasing however lyrically cheesy in my opinion.
use me ft 070 shake - 5
the song is very good I love it sonically and lyrically however... I unfortunately believe 070 shakes verse sounds out of place and very much prefer the version of use me without her feature.
wish you well - 7
definitely the most pop sounding of the album. Its a good song however I dont think it sonically fits the rest of the album. At a specific part of the chorus there seems to be a part that the vocals sound mumbled and hard to understand as well, at least to me. Still a good song over all.
Album in all - 7
Its got highs n lows and the genre change can take time to get used to but I still love this album and think its great that Pvris is experimenting with change.

Branching out to a different sound worked for me. It's a very consistently good album.

I watched the empty room sessions on YouTube and fell in love with PVRIS. I prefer Lynn’s voice on their acoustic stuff the most. Her voice is beautiful and I feel like this album and the one before it are diminishing her talent.

Lynn really shows her incredible talent for writing music and producing as well. It's a flawless transition from the first 2 albums to what this album becomes. I love the versitility and it is just great to have PVRIS back. I can't wait to see where Lynn take this band in the future. Stay Gold Lynn!
Amazing

Lynn’s voice is why I keep coming back but since she is so adamant about not repeating the awesome rock-ness of White Noise, it’s going to be hit and miss from here on out for me. Seriously, that first album was near perfection. This one has some good ones and some that can just be skipped. I’m actually a lil bummed that she said she has no more interest in the rock side of the music. Is what it is. She still has an awesome voice and some of the beats are solid. However, that first album is the pinnacle for my music taste as far as the band is concerned. Cheers
