Johnny Cash‘s version is also a cover. The song was first recorded June 1946 by Golden Gate Quartet, and it was covered at least another half dozen times by other artists before Johnny Cash did. The only reason I know that, is because I did five minutes of research after I heard Johnny Cash‘s version on Gotham. LOL.
