Whitney Houston was at her most popular in the early 90s (1992-1994) due to the phenomenal, legacy defining success of “I Will Always Love You” from The Bodyguard Soundtrack (42M sold). Mariah Carey dominated the mid 90s (1993-1996) with the success of “Hero” and “Without You” from Music Box (28M) and “Fantasy” from Daydream (25M). Celine, meanwhile, reached peak popularity in the USA during the late 90s (1997-1999) with the global success of “My Heart Will Go On” from the record setting film, Titanic. Needless to say, it was an exciting decade to witness The Vocal Trinity hard at work.
The aforementioned song was included on this album, so it’s no wonder it became Celine’s best selling album to date (30M sold). Her voice is in top form here. The belts are fantastic. That said, this is a ballad heavy album with lots of AC/MOR material, so those looking for a more balanced Celine album with a handful of uptempo and mid-tempo bops, I recommend buying her 2002 comeback album, A New Day Has Come. Her voice is also in very good condition on that album.
