Contrary to popular belief, I actually really love Saint Vincents production on this album
  • Dull Pop besides one song, bummer

It's like someone turned on a hoover and sucked the soul out of this band. Change is good and so is growth but this is another band altogether, and unfortunately for me, this new iteration just isn't as good.
  • Where’s Janet???

    Janet please come home.
  • Reminds me of when David Byrne produced the B-52s

Not a bad album. Lyrically not far off from what they've done before but musically It just takes some getting used to. When I heard this and read some of the negative reviews, I immedetely thougt of the B-52s 1982 EP (originally meant to be a full lenght album) Mesopotamia. David Bryne of Talking Heads produced it and you can hear his influence all over the place. It was a bit off-putting if you were expecting another standard B-52s album, but on its own not bad at all and one I personally enjoyed. I feel the same about The Center Won't Hold. I miss the meater sound, musically speaking, but on it's own it's a strong album.
  • Big misstep here

What to say- reminds me of when the Rolling Stones tried a pop sound in the 80s in an effort not to sound old. Synth drums and overlays really cloud this effort and make it boring. Maybe next time they will find their mojo, and a better producer
  • this is very strange.

When I listen to these songs, they are clearly Sleater-Kinney songs. But they don't sound like Sleater-Kinney songs. It makes me very sad. Restless sounds like Sleater-Kinney. LOVE does, a bit. And Broken is not at all out of place. But the rest of it? Makes me want to cry. This reminds me most of Neil Young's "Trans." It is utterly unrepresentative of any of their prior work.
  • Unlistenable. Unlikeable. Don’tBuyable.

I’m totally down for a band going a different direction, but that new direction has got to be good. And this just isn’t. St. Vincent’s synth-industrial grunts and groans infect this album like an invasive species. Go beg Janet to come back and pretend this one never happened.
  • Listen and savor.

I like it. First 2 tracks are better with each listen. Wish it was darker and harder. Title track is haunting...more of that please.
  • Trying to keep an open mind.....

As a SK fan this album is something other than - I won't criticize a band for change and challenge they gotta do what they gotta do but I don't think this is very good.....would have preferred Corin and Carrie doing a side project and instead keep SK sound more intact. Ughh....but of course it is their band so this is it.
  • Amazing!
