I love this record. It’s musically some of their best. It’s new, diverse, and creative without abandoning their sound. Lyrically, they took a different approach than their past releases. It’s not as much a contemporary worship album, but I don’t think that’s what they sought out to write; and I’m thankful they didn’t. Don’t get me wrong, contemporary Christian worship music is fantastic and has its purpose in the church (and they’ve done it well in the past) but it’s exciting to see them step into a new season. Their audience has somewhat changed too, as far as I can tell, so it’s not only good but necessary. It’s been put that there’s music “for the church” and then there’s music “by the church”. Both serve the saints in different realms, and I believe this album falls into the second category. The presentation is phenomenal. The heart behind it is both comforting a challenging; a sweet balance that believers need in this particular time. Well done, fellas. Can’t wait to see you live this month.
