Both a Stretch and a Success

The first four tracks are top notch, with 1 and 3 instant classics. They also are a bit of a departure form Rich's usual approach. They are more melodic, more instrumentated, than most of his other work. Track 5 is reminiscent of Rich's work with Ian Boddy (not a selling point for me). Track 6 is much more traditionally Richian, with his wood flute featured. Track 7 meanders and does not hold my interest. Really, this CD is like two different works on one disc. Tracks 1-4 are highly recommended, while tracks 5-7 are uninspired. Overall worth the purchase due to the strengths of the first four pieces.
