  • A tour-de-force worth the effort

The Grand Spontanean (Telethon's 3rd LP) was the album that put them on the map, yet a 30-song, 90-minute concept album is likely not the optimal way to gain a fanbase, as the sheer number of great new artists competing for our listening time makes listening to The Grand Spontanean quite the commitment. And furthermore, the album's full excellence is only revealed through dozens of listen-throughs,as the lyrical depth of the album reward the careful, repetitive listener with a new treat perhaps every playthrough. Fortunately, there are enough earworms in the first 30 minutes of the album to perhaps encourage new listeners to decide to see what the entire album has to offer. A range of musical styles, an album-length narrative that bucks conventional norms, and a few guest stars are all to be found in this masterpiece of an album. Their critically acclaimed follow-up EP is an easier introduction to the band for the casual listener (as is their preceding LP, "Citrosis"), but if those albums can serve as motivation for a fan to take the plunge and spend a significant amount of time with this massive album, they will be aptly rewarded.

Telethon is an amazing band from Wisconsin and they have a great chemistry between their members. They have a sound that resembles Weezer or the sound Green Day had on their album warning. Telethon isn't a band you want to skip out on. They are very talented and this new record I'm already loving
