Loves this, brings back memories. My 18 year old loves the Glamorous Life as well. Timeless!

I downloaded one track from this and it was from vinyl! Why can't you alert us that we're downloading scratchy vinyl. If I wanted bad vinyl I would have gone to the thrift shop!

I just saw Sheila E performing live with her family in concert for her father's birthday and had to come home and grab this classic. That woman is still playing hard for hours - dancing, drumming and singing and leaving her audience breathless. Then iTunes gave me the option of the original 9 minute version or the 6 minute remix - why mess with her version, though I probably will go back and grab the remix - for 99 cents it's hard to resist. And with a little help from Garage Band guess what my new ringtone is?

A Purple Rain Companion Must

I got this on vinyl way back with Purple Rain and then later Apollonia 6, these two - A6 and Glamorous Life oh wait, and The Time's Ice Cream Castles MUST be listened to and experienced with Purple Rain. The whole spirit, musically, showbiz-like, etc, the style of the time is captured equally on these albums.
On Glam Life, Sheila E. pretty much re-did Prince's vocal tracks. Its ALL Prince on instruments and song writing. Im sure she contributed a bit as she is an incredible musician and eats, breathes, exhales music.
Factoid - if you listen very, very closely, you can hear Prince's vocals in every line on the title song. He's in the mix, completely, you'll hear his voice, faint in the background and hers over it, if you focus on his, its a Prince song!
Anyway, the album is a seriuosly cool work of Funk Rock with some of the more groove danceable insatiable Prince songs ever. He worked the Linn LM-1 drum machine like crazy and all the songs have a sort of spur of the moment and or recorded on the fly feeling that gives each song an excitement.
My favorites are tracks 1 thorugh 7. Ha! I love them all! I love the strange feeling and romantic loving feel of Noon Rendezvous with the drum machine working through echo guitar effects. Just so out of this world.
Shortberry Strawcake was Prince's first real psychedelic song before going 60's Paisley Underground later in the mid-80's. Its a Prince song, with Prince vocals - but its his guitar singing, its the coolest song ever in his work!
Anyway, a fun Funk jam of an album. For those that are intrigued with the 80's, this work was of course done in around the early 80's, but its stands outside what was being done in the mainstream channels of R&B/Soul etc. Its got a great latin color all around it, but its not eighties-eighties, its just Minneapolis Latin Funk...very hard to descibe. In one word - great!
