I have just reviewed the new Hidden Citizens album, Reawakenings. Without any doubt, this album has power. It takes me on an emotional journey, dark sinister overtones, a sense of heavy foreboding, and the slow sullen tempo draws me into a world of the dystopic future. My mind paints images of a world unlike today, yet completely like today.
Hidden Citizens paints images, dark, frightening and all too real. The music draws me in, holds me there, sharing with me the musicians powerful message. I feel my pulse race, my body sweats, I am at once both afraid, and exhilarated. I find myself feeling emotions with each chorus. At times I am compelled to grab the arms of my chair in anticipation, then to raise my fist in triumph! They play not only instruments, making music, they play emotions. They create their own apocalyptic world.
If the end of everything has a soundtrack, Hidden Citizens will be the band that brings it to life. Their music will grab you, as it does me. It will hold you, force you to feel, to experience, to hold on to everything you can. The journey will be full of dramatic lows and triumphant highs. It will be exhausting, and relentless. There is no break. No weak tracks, no B side material. Each track will slam into your soul, this is a brave new style of music.
Hidden Citizens brings more to you than just a few power tracks and some filler. They bring full scale destruction of everything you thought you knew about music with each track more amazing than the last. Unlike the canned “pop rock” you hear on the radio, the style of their music is unique. It is emotional, sinister and will lay waste to everything else you've heard before. Until you hear this album, you have not EXPERIENCED music.
You have to be brave enough to be taken on a journey of emotions. There is no turning back, each track will take you father, push you harder, and by the end, you'll know what you're made of, and what music was meant to be. It will inspire you, drive you, and you will find yourself humming the songs well after they are over.
We all experience the world in our own ways, but when you listen to this album, you will share the world through their eyes. You will see the world differently, and this may well become the soundtrack of your life.
Don't be surprised when people ask you who this band is. Everyone that hears them says the same thing. They want to know who it is, where they can get their music. This is the next big thing. So be brave, take the risk, don't turn back, and above all, be prepared to experience music, not just listen to it. Hidden Citizens, no longer hiding in the shadows.
