I Was Gonna Pass

I was gonna pass on this because 1) it's a live album. Not a big fan of the live albums. 2) I already have every song on here. BUT. Then you start to preview it, and an amazing thing starts happening. I start to disappear into 1980-something and I'm actually at the show again just like I was when I was a teenager. And I feel the adrenaline again of being in the middle of an exciting, unpredictable moment. The way concerts used to be. The sound is so good on this album. And the chemistry between the band members starts to bleed through. It's palpable. It's captured proof that the way things used to be are still hidden away out there in the corners of nowadays.
Amazing!!!!!

While Night Ranger has had a glut of live albums out of Japan, 35 Years and a Night in Chicago is the essential one. At the least, it is a "Best Of" Live album, utilizing their hits and fan favorites in a spectacular set. At the most, it is their best live album with a mix that never sacrifices the music mix for the live crowd, nor the reverse. And it shows how Jack Blades as an excellent front man keen in getting the audience to go along. Probably my favorites was "High Road" in which he fires up the Chicago crowd. Of course, other songs like Rumours in the Air, The Secret of my Success, Sing me Away, Penny, and When You Close your Eyes have a great life of their own. And of course, You Can Still Rock in America and Sister Christian close up the awesome concert. Night Ranger is one of my favorites - and this live album hits the nail on the head for the avid Night Ranger fan.
