Yes, it's a change of style, but it works. That said, I am not as big a fan of their first two discs as others here - I felt the group started to hit it strides with Stories Don't End. "When The Tequila Runs Out" is the most likely single from this effort, but I prefer the title track and Rolling With the Punches (which has an Eagles-like sound at times). Former keyboardist Tay Strathairn left the group due to "musical differences" a while ago, so I guess he wasn't keen on this new direction. Too bad, as he was a good member of the band musically.

Simple Update 7/24/17: Great Album. Put in the time. Many if not all of these songs are great live. Different yes, but still a fantastic album. Original Review: I was really looking forward to this new album. I was not thrilled when I first heard Tequila. I was intrigued and yet still not too thrilled when I heard We're all Gonna Die, but I was able to appreciate the awesomeness of the song. When I first heard the entire album the whole way through I again was not thrilled. But...I've put the work in listening to the new album, opened my mind to the possibility of change, and now really appreciate most of these new songs. I'll admit, I'm still sad this wasn't more in the style of Nothing is Wrong, but maybe they'll revert to that for the next one. You can still rock out and jam to this new album. As another Dawes fan described, there's a layer of cheese on this album. And as other fans of Dawes and myself have now said, you'll hear all kinds of familiarities on this new album. I hear Paul Simon, some Eagles again, some Hall & Oates, similarities to a Ben Folds song on We're All Gonna Die, and some others as well. It's not the Dawes I'm used to, but Dawes is still there. You just may have to try a little harder to hear them at first on this new album. Put in the time and enjoy some new music.

Every Dawes album just keeps getting better and better. "All Your Favorite Bands" was by far my favorite album from 2015, so I never expected to like this one as much, especially with the change in sound. However, after a few listens, I was sold. Love this album.

I love the Dawes, but this album wasn't my cup of tea. It's very different from their previous releases. I imagine as a musician, you get tired of doing the same thing over and over, so on that note, I happy for them for trying something new.

Dawes is one of my favorites. This album uses a production style that detracts from the lyrical and poetic qualities of the lyrics and the vocals. I continue to admire the songwriting but the production acts to push me out of the songs.

Big Dawes fan. Couple of recognizable singles captures you. Give the rest some time, and you will like the different vibe on this one!

Every time I hear this band it sounds like an add for a self help class at your local college. The most simplistic weak arrangements over the most cliche lyrics. Roll with the punches. Please, the next album will probably have songs titled: when the early bird gets the worm and two in the hand is worth two in the bush. This band blows. Stop throwing your pretentious lyrics at us.

I just wasted $10. Thanks a Charlie Rose for nothing.
