I don't think I have written a review on iTunes in years. Maybe an entire decade. Maybe more. It feels like I was a teen last time I did this. Idk. But I wanted to chime in here, because this is a great album. A bunch of fans seem to be disappoited that it doesn't sound like they used to sound. At least one reviewer claims that the problem isn't that, it's just that the songs are forgetable. I could not disagree more. I like all of their albums. Like most fans, I am pretty high on classic TBS albums like "Where You Want to Be." But THIS. This is actually my favorite. I know it's veering more into Americana rock than anything before (though it's a pretty natural evolution if you've been following from album to album, especially after "Happiness Is..."). I don't care that it's different. They are GREAT at this. I hope that these other fans don't scare the band back into their box. Do I want to hear call backs to their old sound? Sure. But do I want them to abandon this new stuff? Absolutely not. Listen without preconceptions. If it helps, don't worry about what you expect from TBS. Just ask yourself, is this good music? The answer is yes.

Love how TBS’s sound has matured over the years. Feel like their albums are more of a soundtrack to life.

I loveeeee TBS but I miss their original sound. This album makes my soul sad. The only song that sounds remotely like them is “We Don’t Go In There”. Adam’s vocals are not prominent enough in this album either. I know people change over time but I really wish they wouldn’t. Tell All Your Friends and Where You Want To Be are GOLD. The album Louder Now is good too but this one is boo boo.

20 years later and Taking Back Sunday still has a way, that only they do, of turning raw emotion into sound. I dare you to take a drive while listening to any song at random from Tidal Wave and NOT find yourself transported to a feeling that either kicks you in the gut, or has you swaying in your seat like you’re Johnny Cash and you just got rhythm 😉 Despite what any jaded hipster music gatekeepers may rant and moan about; no one can deny that TBS is one of (if not the) hardest working bands of our generation, and they are only getting better with age and experience! #dontsleeponTBS

The problem with this record has nothing to do with TBS changing their sound, drawing from new influences or getting older. The problem with this record is that it does not stick with you after you listen to it. The songs simply are not good enough compared to efforts on TAYF, WYWTB or Louder Now--I even loved portions of New Again. Until this changes and they get the magic back, I will likely not buy another one of their records. I will say, however, that I loved the last track on this album, but it sounded vaguely familiar. Then I realized the lyrics in the chorus are nearly exactly the same as the track Politik by Coldplay. Not good.

Not many bands get better as their catalog gets deeper but TBS isn't like most bands. This album is solid front to back and represents an incredible evolution for an incredible band.
