  • Highly Polished Jubilee Quartet Music

The Golden Gate Quartet sang gospel music in the jubilee quartet style, which borrowed heavily from barbershop quartets, blues, and jazz. This style predated the hard gospel style that most of us are more familiar with. Not to be missed in this album is "Shadrack". Some of the cuts suffer from pops and hiss that could not be cleaned out, but many of the cuts made a clean transition to digital. "Atom and Evil", written at the dawn of the nuclear age, makes a transition from the story of the biblical Adam to the specter of nuclear proliferation.
