Whhen I was shuffling between high school, college, and odd jobs, I think this cassette sat in my car stereo off and on (mostly on) for 2 straight years. Then suddenly, the tape snapped and I moved on to CD's. I took another listen to this start to finish for the first time in 20+ years and wow! So many great tunes! Love it and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to just 'feel' high without having to touch the substances :)

I was never allowed to get this when I was a kid. The album cover was too risqué for my folks. But, it was an awesome album to hear. A perfect blend of Led Zeppelin riffs Rolling Stones style lyrics and a sorted feel of Ian Curtis. Jane Says is one of the greatest songs ever written. It feels so personal as if Jane was the girl that lived down the hall from you. A sort of outside looking in kind of feel. Mountain Song is killer. I can only guess what it's about but, for the sake of argument I won't (Skiing maybe?).

Jane's Addiction were one of the bands to start the Alt Rock of the 90s.This was their major label debut and a classic album in my opinion. They have a great mix of Psychedelic Rock and Heavy Metal.Mountain Song is a heavy song.Jane Says and Ocean Size are softer.Dave Navarro is an amazing guitarist and Perry Farrell has great vocals.Buy this album!!!
  • An astonishing classic life-changing album

Just as I had older rock and rollers tell me how life changing hearing Hendrix for the first time was, Nothing's Shocking remains an utterly life changing solid blast to those of us who came of age in the late 1980's. Especially since it was easy to have given up on rock and roll having anything to say. 7 or 8 years of Poison, Motley Crue and Def Leppard had made give up. "I may be old but I saw all the cool bands" said the bumper stickers, and they were right. They had Zeppelin and the Who and Hendrix and my generation had... almost no one. And then jane's came along, in the age of "just say no" and AIDS advocating sex and drugs and putting some of the danger back into music and some teeth into rock. Awe inspiring and sonically devastating in a paid of headphones, straight or otherwise. This is the sound of a band looking over the edge and, like a certain set of Los Angeles at that time, not caring that the void looked back. Take a leap, like Alice, and you may get a little part lost forever.

I cannot begin to express how perfect this album is. It brings back memories every time I listen and makes me wonder why I don't listen more often.

This is the perfect music to lay back and smoke a joint too! Jane Says and and Ted, Just Admit It.... are my favorites but I love every song on this album. This album is my favorite by them because it's more raw and powerful than Ritual de Habitual.
