I have been a fan of Disturbed for years. Their sound, and especially David Draiman’s vocals, attracts the casual hard-rock fan with ease. Within the last 10 years however, the band has really expanded beyond their “dark” and “aggressive” sound from the early 2000’s to more social commentary. They have proven their ability to cover established songs and make them unique (ex. “Land of Confusion” rivals Genesis’ original version as far as social relevance). Following the powerful “Sound of Silence” music video comes this surprisingly positive message of hope from an aggressive, heavy band. The message is not stereotypical and fluffy as positive-themed songs can be. Its power relies in the band’s ability to not detract from their basic sound and tone. I know that many people can relate to working through a dark time and finding “the light” through the experience, including Disturbed fans I’m sure. This is why I love this song and the music video. Just as “Sometimes Darkness can show you The Light”, Disturbed can still surprise us with new messages and themes throughout the years!
