Gaad will someone censor Boolez. The guy still lives with his parents and writes "reviews" by listening to 90 second samples. I heard this symphony live three times at its premiere last year. Goldenthal has created a little nuclear bomb of a symphony; it delivers an incredible punch of emotional depth and rigorous structure in a package digestible for stuffy symphony crowds, I.e. It's a great modern symphony that can fit on the first half of a program. Really great stuff and the stereophonic percussion at the end seems like the concert hall is under attack!

Not familiar with all of this Goldenthal fellow's outlook, but it still sounds like warmed over film music. I'd call this style over substance, but there's little style in this to qualify for even that. -Bz

I am thrilled to hear this new recording from Elliot Goldenthal and Pacific Symphony. It has echoes of "Fire Water Paper" which was also commissioned and recorded by the Pacific Symphony. There are also hints of "Interview with the Vampire" and "Alien3" within the symphony (which he also scored). I absolutely love this symphony--it is classic Goldenthal.
