The tone is set gorgeously from he very first chord on this terrific record by bassist Mike Oien. Mike's bass sound is full and beautiful, without ever being overpowering. He leads he band subtly but effectively, which is not an easy task. The majority of he record also features Mike's composition abilities, which are not to be overlooked! The rest of the band contributes significantly as well - from deep grooves that really sit in the pocket, to top-notch improvisations that take listeners through an array of emotions. From the playing to the writing to the recording quality to the album artwork, this is an amazing freshman effort from a bassist that you'll be sure to hear more soon. This is a must have for any jazz fan!
