I love this man’s music

One of the best things about Peter Gabriel is that he never compromised his artistry for the jet setting elite. His album So hit big and got him international attention, but rather than capitalize on his success and dive right into pop, he dove more into world music, which resulted in his beautiful soundtrack to The Last Temptation of Christ and Us. Us’ world flourishes is one of its greatest strengths. The album is quite shaded and gentle, yet ethereal and layered. Some of his greatest songs in a catalog full of them—Blood of Eden, Come Talk To Me and 14 Black Paintings—can be found here along with other gems save for Washing of the Water, which is too dull and droning. Steam has been misconstrued as a Sledgehammer rehash, but it’s different enough, and if the latter was electro-soul, then the former is electro-funk. Kiss That Frog is cool blues rock but the lyrics are vague and then not vague, it’s rather confusing; you don’t know whether it’s a double entendre or literally about an enchanting frog. But it’s a good song in spite of that. Us is worth checking out today or at any time, it and Gabriel’s other albums are testaments to pop being talented, creative and innovative, not to mention beautiful. Which are things Megan Thee Stallion, The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, Coldplay, Jessie Reyez, Cardi B, Shawn Mendes and Drake cannot and never will claim.
