Muscular and Lyrical: Magic

From playing these myself, I'm viscerally sure that if Beethoven were around, he'd play them the way Goode does. Uncompromising technique. Disciplined and never sloppy, but at the same time emotionally powerful. The uniquely Beethoven combination of soaring lyrical beauty with muscular, textured, and sometimes startling force, rhythmic surprise, and humor, all in rapid, sometimes even simultaneous juxtaposition; and -- this most of all -- deeply caring and wholly alive about the music. Goode never, never just phones it in, which is a risk for anyone with a technique as solid as his. This is music, and performance, to get gloriously lost in. No matter how well you know these, you'll hear them newly. Sixty-nine bucks, yes; but well spent indeed.
