Album of the Year

Stunningly beautiful from start to finish, Who is the Sender? marks yet another gem from one of the best songwriters of the last 50 years. Some tracks, such as "The Geese Are Flying Westward" are quite personal, whereas others, such as "War Machine", address universal issues. While every song on the album has its niche, "How Little" might be my favorite track, as it combines the delicate delivery and lyricism of Fay's more recent albums with the heavier style found on his older releases (particularly Time of the Last Persecution). The album's most touching moment is a new recording of "I Hear You Calling", originally from the aforementioned 1971 record. After years hidden away from the music scene, Fay has returned better than ever. If you only buy one album this year, this is the one.
