Kingdom Come - Single

I really enjoyed this Dire Straits tune. Its been so long since I have heard anything new from them. With only 6 albums written, I jumped at the opportunity to hear something new, despite the fact that this is only one tune. This tune was not included on the original release of "On Every Street" album. Although I really like that album, it could have easily replaced the "My Parties", which I think is the weakest cut on that album. That being said, "My Parties" is still a good cut. In any case, its better late than never. This is certainly a must have for all of those DS/MK fans out there. Really cool lyrics. Makes me wonder what else MK is holding back on us. Come on Mark, release them all man!!! I'm dying over here for some new stuff!!!

I suppose it's a testament to just how good an album "On Every Street" actually was, because apparently there was no room for "Kingdom Come" on the CD and it's a fantastic single. In typical Dire Straits fashion, there's lots of Mark Knopfler's driving guitar, along with his somewhat twisted sense of lyrical humor. If you are even a remote Knopfler / Dire Straits fan, buy this song. You will NOT be disappointed.

After hearing this, one can only wonder why Knopfler left this cut off of Straits' 1991 release "On Every Street". I don't recall which single it was featured on, but you can be sure that you won't want to miss it either. Another cut track from "On Every Street" was "Millionaire Blues". If you can find it, it's definitely worth checking out as well. This song digs into humor about conservative gun-toting Americans. And it'll make you want to, "Blow anything you want...to kingdom come".

Just to set the record strait (no pun intended), this is not a new Dire Straits recording. This is a leftover track from the band's last studio album together, 1991's On Every Street. The recent release date may refer to the re-issue date, as I have an original pressing from 1992. I don't think Mark Knopfler will ever return to his old band mates, especially since he was pretty much the heart and soul of Dire Straits to begin with.
