It's good but it's missing something.

Instrumentally, Mastodon is always spot on with live performances. However, they seem to crank the volume for their instruments up to 11 whereas the volume for their mics seems to be down somewhere around 6 or 7. You can BARELY hear the vocals on any of the songs, which kind of eats because their vocals are usually good. It's almost as if they're afraid their own voices outside the studio.
Good live album, but I just wish they'd stop drowning themselves out.

Hearing their produced albums and hearing them live is like listening two different bands. I've loved this band since Remission. I've seen them live a few times. Their new sound just doesn't work with their vocals. This album has moments of clarity where they sound pretty decent. But, a few does not make up for the fact that it hurts my ears. I hope they figure out how to use their voices because I'm slowly turning away from them.
So excited!
