RIP Shannon Hoon

This is one of them albums that doesn’t get enough credit that it deserves. It’s a beautiful album. Car Seat God’s presents is song about Susan Smith with words from Shannon’s great grandmother on its tail end. Still haunts. Mouthful of Cavities is a standout track but, TBH there’s not a bad track on the album. The band definitely designed it to listen from start to finish. 5 stars doesn’t do it justice. 10 stars maybe.
Yes, 5-star average is real — and deserved

I came here nearly 30 years after this album’s release because I was curious about the reviews. I’m so glad to see a 5-star average for this album, which is one of my all-time favorites. I loved it in 1995 and I love it now. I was very lucky to see this band live, in a small venue, before Hoon’s tragic and untimely death. I’m so glad I did and it still stands as one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen.
Beautiful Album

This is a very good album and all, but $17.99 for 14 songs? Really, Apple?
One of my favorites of all time. Worth every penny.

My collection spans many generations and a wide variety of genres, but this album consistently delivers enjoyment to my soul. From beginning to end. If you’re contemplating buying this, just do it. You’ll thank me later.
It's all great

Every song is just good. Can't beat it, especially when it comes to these guys. Talented musicians. Will forever miss Shannon.
Criminally underrated!

This amazing album did get poor reviews upon release. Absolutely criminal, and may have indirectly contributed to or expedited Shannon Hoon's Tragic death at 28. Unfortunately addiction is more murderous than poor album reviews, but that's for a different discussion forum. This album's full of priceless material. It is less straightworward and more psychadelic than the debut.
Forgotten Treasure

This is a record I always fall in love with all over again. This record was considered a "disappointment" by the record company. Probably because it dared to be its own experiment. In the mid 90's, there was little room for a great jam band. Much less for one that got overplayed with one single... Which I still think is a good song but also think its far from their best. The single from this record, "Galaxie" really had something special. It's a great song but for some reason, it just didn't catch. Perhaps it was Shannon Hoon's drug issues getting more publicity than the band itself or... I really don't know. But I do know that when I heard this record, I had to reassess the value of this band. I just couldn't believe how artisitic, jamtastic, creative and unique it was. Much like the Black Crows' "Amorica" record, it really required repeated listens to get the genius. And the rock culture at the time was already being overtaken by the Seattle scene (and deservedly so- IMO). And through that lens, all the rock fans would peer through it and then look at eachother with a shoulder shrug and go back to listening to Nevermind. This record has aged so well, too. It still rocks and has the feeling of your favorite old concert shirt that still fits. If you haven't discovered it yet, do yourself a favor and do that now. You will be rediscovering it for a long time to come.
