Her originals are always fantastic, but it's her complete reworking of pop songs that usually leave fans with their mouths hanging open. This is wonderful collection of some of her strongest covers spanning from 1995 to 2006. Anyone who can cover U2, The Monkees, Bob Dylan and Cyndi Lauper with equal skill and inventiveness is someone to pay close attention to. For instant proof, sample "Last Train to Clarksville" with its shuffling beats and changing time signatures, or her exquisite reading of "Time After Time," taken at a glacial pace to fully appreciate the beauty of the melody and the poetry of the lyrics.
If you don't anything by Cassandra Wilson, this is an excellent place to start. She's on a level all her own.
