From the first strains of “Walk on the Ocean” I heard in 1992 to this 2013 release two decades later, Glen Phillips and company once again release a set of very strong, beautiful songs that celebrate life in all its phases. Unique melodies, instantly recognizable guitar work from Todd Nichols and the fine bass and drum unit of Dean Dinning and Randy Guss have always produced some wonderful tunes, and this release is no exception. Standouts on this release include ‘Rare Bird’ and my personal favorite, “Golden Age..” Get it and enjoy. This release is a “rare bird..” :-)

I went to TTWS concert last nite in OKC and have decided they are my favorite band of all time. I’m a marathoner and have run with this music pushing me down the road for thousands of miles. I started my exercise program in 95 running my first marathon listening to TTWS. This album is vintage along with everything they’ve done. Please come back to OKC!

I'll bet on you TTWS! You don't let me down even after 25+ years. Thank you for this. Enough said.
  • Er…. that was pretty bad.

I have 4 or so Toad albums. Granted, I don’t listen to them as much as I used to but I did used to like their music quite a bit. This just.. wasn’t.. very good… how else can I put it? I don’t know how it got rated so high actually, but I think fans have their blinders on. Empty sound, empty (and pretty lame) lyrics. Wish ‘em all the best, but I’m not a fan of this album.

Their (relatively ) new album is superb. What metaphors should I use here ? Ahhhh yes: It's like gold being refined by fire; and it's like a great phoenix rising from it's own ashes to become a thing of splendor & majesty. 👊🏻 (fist bump)

Great new album by Toad, but I really really wanted to hear "Friendly Fire" after sharing it live a couple of years ago; it's one of their best songs and I can't understand why thy didn't make it a single on the album. I'm not a social networking web stalker, so I didn't know about Kickstarter. Now I have to wait and see if they release a bonus track edition (for which they're going to get a whole second album purchase out of). Hopefully they release the four tracks on iTunes for individual download. (UPDATE: June 2015: Yes! Toad has released an EP called Architect of the Ruin with this and some other songs from the vinyl and Kickstarter editions. I think they read my review! Thanks! I've changed my form stars to five!) "New Constellation" is a good upbeat song. "The Moment", "The Eye", and "I'll Bet on You" are classic Toad songs. The new version of "Enough" is good, but I think I like the original slightly better. Todd's "Life Is Beautiful" is one of my favorites on this album-- I love to hear more of his voice in there (after all, it was the song "All Right" that brought me to Toad and made me a lifelong fan.) "Golden Age" is my favorite tune on this album though-- it's haunting and unnerving.

I've been a big fan of Toad since "Pale"& The boys have never been so on point or melodic/I used to say U2's best album was Joshua tree(but they may have surpassed that since) but in the same vein/I felt coil was there Joshua Tree also....I judged too early..THIS is the finest releases i think they have, there crowning jewel!!(by the way they have a six song EP they put out since, four New songs, A remix& and re-record a song by Toad that was previously on Glenn's Ola album.. Can't wait for the next release boys/Beautiful prolific job on base Dean..
