The worst track is Hello Kitty
A lot of Japanese artists aren’t taken seriously and we face a lot of American discrimination.
Either people think we’re immature, forever children, “an anime paradise” or “perverted”
You have to be careful with who you talk to in my experience because some people will judge you before you even have a chance to show who you are when you’re a Japanese American artist.
And Avril writes a song that is using our slang words and it doesn’t feel authentic. It comes off like typical American appropriation and disrespect
I know Japanese people in Japan are all for this song, but as a Japanese person struggling in the USA, surrounded by more critical lens than positive ones (it’s gotten WAY BETTER these last 3 years) but there’s still a lot of animephobic, j-pop/idol hating people here and this song doesn’t help but reinforce a certain kind of “silly” vibe surrounding Japanese culture and climate.
Other unfortunate things in Hello Kitty is “a fat kid eating smarties”
Did you have to disrespect fat people too?
