Whats up with all the woodblock? Its in every song. Probably would have been 4-5 stars if some restraint was used with the woodblock.

Thank you MOJO Magazine - I had never heard of Bill prior to reading your year end edition and choosing his album as best of the year. I have kep t this in heavy rotation for the past two months! Heading to investigate more of Mr Callahans music and hope to see him live at some point.

I've been a fan of Callahan's since Smog's beginnings. This new record was a surprising disappointment. It's dripping in flute and I need flute like a hole in the head.

This album is a lesson in how moving simple, quiet music can be. I had never listened to Bill Callahan before this album, but now can’t get this off my everyday playlist. Lyrics are brilliant and music perfectly executed. Although simple, it is varied and the entire album is wonderful.

I saw Bill perform live for the first time ever about a week ago. Great show and great album! I'm pretty sure he played every song off Dream River. He opened with the first three songs from the album in order. When he sings "Small Plane", it almost feels like you're up there with him (check out his NYC community garden video). I'm partial to ARATMTL and SIWWWAE, but DR is climbing more and more rungs for me with every listen.

Great album from start to finish. If you've liked anything Bill Callahan has done in the past, this will be extremely satisfying.

The musical colors that bill uses in this album are more varied and vibrant then his previous few albums. ANd of course Bill Callahan's lyrics are strange pictures of the things that we all hide but nonetheless are still revealed. The music and his lyrics capture the spirit, the feeling that inhabits these strange but commonplace moments in a very enjoyable way. This album is fun to listen, it is enjoyable.
