I didn't listen to it much when it first came out, kind of blew it off, maybe was over the so called grudge scene, I don't know....17 years later, sounds like the best Pearl Jam record ever. Something to be said about the lasting power of this band!!

I didn't care for it at first, but now I really like it. Probably their 7th best album. 4.5/5.

This album doesn't have a collection of top 10 singles, but it has some really good stories in there. I'm glad I listened to it.

The opening riff of Breaker Fall got me hooked, took me back to The Who sound. Light years is terrific, and Of The Girl is nothing short of epic. Just give this album time to breathe, it takes a few listens.

Along with No Code, this album sold me on Pearl Jam as a band and as a group of song writers. It has one of the most unconventional production qualities of any album (especially by this band). However it has so many nice layers. These might be Eddie's best lyrics, period. This get's slammed by some people, but Pearl Jam fans are a fickle lot and are largely divided when it comes to their material. This is a great album to start with if you are turned off by the angst of Ten or the Rawk anger of Vs. or Vitalogy (though those albums are not to be underestimated either). Overall this is where the band sounds like they are generally having fun, even on the serious songs. Because they had shed their 'fame' so to speak, Pearl Jam were allowed to get to a place natural equilibrium, and loosen up a bit. This album was sort of the end point of three albums of personal and emotional growth for the band, starting with No Code and continuing with Yield. Generally this album has a nice sense of fun, intelligent lyrical content, and unpretentious ambition that really showed what Pearl Jam is capable of when the mainstream is not looking at them with a big spot light.
  • Probably my 2nd Favorite Pearl Jam album

This album is criminally underrated. I understand how when this album came out in 2000 the scene drastically changed. Guys like Korn,Limp Bizkit,Eminem,Marilyn Manson, and worst of all one hit wonders were getting air time instead of grunge and alternative bands. However like Pinkerton from a Weezer this album has grown a fan base over time. Even when this came out though it was a work of art. As much as I like Nu Metal sometimes Grunge and alternative (my personal favorite genres) need the spotlight too. Please buy this album if you didn't like it at first. It will grow with time.
