Cannot believe I am only just now discovering Aoife and Crooked Still. She as now at the top of my all-time favorite artist list, along with Mindy Smith, Emmylou, Alison Krauss and Sarah Jarosz. Inspired by her fresh take on a traditional genre. Eager to hear more from this amazing artist.

It's wonderful to hear truly new ideas in music. One hears echoes of Van Morrison, Donovan, Jeff Buckley, and Gordon Lightfoot (along with Johnny Cash) alongside some more traditional instrumentation and influences in the tunes, and the lyrics evoke Bob Dylan, Tom Brosseau, Buckley (again) and Elliott Smith. Aoife's ethereal voice winding throughout all of this binds the disparate elements together into something truly different. Highlights are Lay My Burden Down (listen for the Cash evocation here), Red & White & Blue & Gold (which paints a beautifully simple picture, and could have been written by Van Morrison), Fire Engine (a fun, country-inspired romp) and Oh, Mama, which recalls Buckley. 4.5/5 for a truly original and inspired creation.

Aoife, you have created a beauty of a CD! I love everything about Fossils, including your great band. It's a sweet mix of country/rock/old timey and it sooo works for me! I even shared your CD posting on Facebook! Thank you for some refreshing stuff!

I was unfamiliar with Aoife O'Donovan's work and was introduced to this album by a friend. My tastes run to classical music and I rarely listen to anything else. This album is sublime and sophisticated. I recognize new language, which merges subtle lyrics with beautiful music. I am very glad to own this recording and cannot wait for O'Donovan's next effort.
