I myself am not so old that I was alive when this game was first released. In fact, the first I ever heard of Final Fantasy was the GBA version, and at first I was bored with it. That was years ago and now I'm addicted to the series. Of course now it's too late to get the originals and the series has been mutilated by spinoffs and the like, but I still watch the games be played on You Tube. Anyways, I truly think that this version has a lot more emotion than the other games. Of course it is in Midi form, but I prefer it. It's so much simpler and more beautiful than the orchestrated version, and thus able to be appreciated.
wow, i can't believe itunes has this :D

Yes, it is a low budget synthesizer, but if you've played Dawn of Souls or Origins, you'ld know how marvelous this OST is. Yes, the Origins track would be better and would sell more, but, this is great for your iPod. The top ten best are 10-Victory, 9-Battle Theme 1, 8-The Imperial Army, 7-Finale, 6-Ancient Castle, 5-Chocobo Theme, 4-Dungeon, 3-Battle Theme 2, 2-Main Theme, and number 1 is Tower of the Magi!

I think they should've used the Origins/Dawn of Souls soundtrack for this instead of the NES version. They had more musical tracks (not to mention they were more orchestrated) and I think it was generally a more "complete" soundtrack.
However, one cannot simply dismiss the old school soundtrack. Although the score uses the old NES hardware to generate sound, it's still a very quality soundtrack.
Keep in mind, this soundtrack probably isn't for everyone. Players who are spoiled with FF7 and beyond might think that the NES sounds are just bloops and bleeps. However, people who have played the original game and loved the soundtrack will most definitely get their money's worth here.
