I would say I’m more of a casual Jerry Garcia fan, but after listening to a few clips I had to pick this up. The production is excellent. Every note from Jerry’s distinct playing rings true. The mix is just excellent. Separation between all instruments is fantastic. Just get it. That’s all.
Finally!!

One of the best guitarists

Listening to this album was an eye opener. I never respected him nearly enough in terms of his guitar skills until now. Wow. He is clearly one of the best ever. The interesting thing is, I've noted that his sound reminds me of John Mayer. Very similar styles. This album makes it painfully ovious just how much of what made the Dead great was Jerry's part. His vocals are always great, peaceful and fragile, but clearly the signature instrumental sound was also his doing. The Dead was like 85% Jerry. Crazy.
Due to the length of this set, it does drag a bit at times and a couple of the songs didn't peak my interest like Simple Twist of Fate. Also, the Hunter songs are vocally sub par. He sounds like an amature Dylan. It's not bad, but it's not good either. It speaks to why he's a writer and not a singer/songwriter.
Great JGB

The version of Sugaree on this set makes it worth the price alone. Consider the rest a bonus. Solid, solid, JGB. Volume 2 is also great, but I prefer this to Volume 2.
If you've considered getting a JGB show, pull the trigger and buy this one

This is a gem of show to find at this price. JGB live albums are hard to come by, particularly for less than $25 or so. I hope the rest in this series are near as terrific as this one.
The sound is great and Jerry is in a good form here. His voice is a delight (unlike in the latter part of the decade and beyond) and he excels on the guitar, as usual. The few songs he does with Robert Hunter are a good change up as well. Promintary Rider is just a fun song.
The "Deal" and "That's What Love Will Make You do" found on this album are my two favorite versions of both those songs.
Others say there is too much crowd noise, but I think it's perfect. Just enough to get the vibe and the energy, but not taking away from the music at all. The sound is so crisp and clear, you'll enjoy it greatly.
Where are Garcia's solo albums?

It’s great that iTunes has Jerry Garcia’s collaborations (with Merle Saunders, David Grisman, Howard Wales, and others), but what about Garcia’s solo albums, most notably Garcia from 1972, which includes “Deal,” “Sugaree,” “The Wheel,” “To Lay Me Down,” and others? (My favorite is “Late for Supper.) There’s also a 2006 double-disc Very Best of Jerry Garcia, a 2005 collection of Garcia’s interpretations of Dylan songs (Garcia Plays Dylan), and others, including others of Garcia playing with the Jerry Garcia Band.
Nothin left to do but smile smile smile

Superb sound and an amazing show. $16 for this is so worth it when tickets to most shows nowadays are $45 and more. If your a fan of JGB get it. Its not like any other show I have heard. Peace
