This was a real letdown after the self-titled album from 97. There are a few killer tracks here, but the rest is filler. I'm sorry, but Scent of a Woman is just awful - a leftover 80s hair band tune. The rest of the set is solid up to Sorry Boy, but the last four tracks are forgettable. My Obsession, Too Much and Pop Drone are the highlights here.

This will not convert you to Cheap Trick, but if you enjoy the band, thiis is a good one to have. Nice mix of songs, some interesting sounds.

I must be the only one, but I think this is their best one.
Their are great rockers like the Scent of a Women, Sorry Boy, an dthe fun Low life in High Heels/Hummer.
There are interesting pieces like Pop Drone, Specail One, and Best Friend
And Too Much is the best radio song Cheap Trick ever did that never got real radio play
This one has an edge. I think their best
Cheap Trick Fans Should Own This One

I downloaded Special One a month prior to a CT concert in Oregon (April ’06) and have enjoyed this CD it from the start. You can’t listen to the song “Special One” at low volume. Like “Dream Police” you find yourself cranking it up every time it comes on. Special One has Cheap Trick’s signature sound and feel, but has a fresh texture and energy; this is not recycled music. Robin Z.’s vocals are killer from start to finish and B.E.C. lays down solid drum work throughout. This CD reminded me how subtle CT’s bass guitar is in much of their music, almost too subtle by today’s standards. There are a few songs, like “Special One”, “My Obsession” and “Best Friend” that deliver the bass, however.
I’ve read the other iTunes reviews on this CD and can’t understand how some folks have loved CT’s newest release, Rockford, yet panned Special One. They’re both very good and any CT fan worth his/her salt should own them both.
P.S – Cheap Trick still rocks the house in concert, see ‘em when you get the chance. They have a nice web site too.
Best Friend GETS HEAVY !!!!!
