I did not think that Matt could ever top the amazing worship music that he writes. But then he came out with this one. It is probably one of his best songs and definitely the best worship song ever. Way to go, Matt!

Matt Papa has a unique gift in his generation. The Spirit has gifted him to make music that not only stirs the emotions, but also violently wars to bring them into alignment with what Francis Schaeffer called “true Truth.” His latest offering, ‘The Reward of His Sufferings,’ blows a steady and refreshing breeze upon the smoldering embers of the Christian music subculture, threatening to ignite what once burned so brightly. His lyrics reflect a deep and rich theology manifest in a passionate and relentless missiology. It was and is an unusual experience that my first listen to any track elicits my heart’s desire to worship. This one did so, not only in the joining of my voice to the singing of the words, but the worship of my heart – a Romans 12:1-2 worship – a call to action! I was immediately lost in the flowing stream of the song, the call to full and fresh surrender, the renewal of my mind, and death to myself which inherently and necessarily puts me at odds with the world around me. The gift that Matt Papa has, best expressed to date in this song, punches the complacent Christian in the stomach, knocking the win of worldly pursuit out of him, and leaves him inexplicably filled with gratitude for the wounds of such a trusted friend.
