I will always love Nobuo Uematsu to death, but I have to say, this is impressive work from Noriyasu Agematsu.
Good soundtrack but...

It needs Celestial Diva. iTunes, no one in the US would be offended if you let more from the Japanese store leak into ours. Just a suggestion.
Why Celestial Diva isn't on here

Celestial Diva isn't on here cause the actual singer has it on her album.
Good, but we've heard it before

Chaos Rings II has an excellent soundtrack, just like the original game. Part of that is due to BEING the same as the original game -- "The Falls of Acheron" is a very mild reorchestration of "Death March" from the original, as is "Forest Thickets" to "Fall From Grace", and a lot of themes from the first game also see reuse. On the other hand, there are over 30 pieces of music here, and considering both the length of the game (maybe 25-30 hours worth of play) and the desire to establish themes for the series, it's a solid effort and a reasonable value.
Nobuo Uematsu's legend is built off an almost endless inventiveness from just one or two core thematic motives for each score; you can hear Agematsu struggling to replicate that sense of a coherent whole with the degree of reuse and reworking here. There are nonetheless some good original songs on offer here, and the game has a new theme of its own, where Agematsu does better than when he is copying his last game. Only a must-buy for hardcore fans of the series, but an above-average game soundtrack taken on its own.
