  • It grows on you

I agree with some of the others that the first half is totally different than what they've done before but just keep listening to it. It seriously starts to grow on you. My first time through I thought it was just ok, but by my 3rd and 4th time I was really liking it. Having said that, I love the second half of the album which sounds more like their usual sound. Let's Go Out Tonight, Facebook.con, and Who The F@@@ Is John Sinclair are some of my new A3 favorites. I also really liked Black Dog even though it sounds like it could be a Zeppelin song, which I think was intentional given the name of the song.

This, like all A3 albums, isn't like the ones before it. If you've not twigged to that fact by now, I don't know what to tell you. Bloody freaking awesome though. it's a fair critizism that Alabama3 can be hit and miss at times, but this one is has way more hits than misses, and, like all A3 outings, it wobbles all over the map. There's blues, "dubstep" (whatever the hell THAT is), gospel, disco, rap, darkness, soulful hope, and many things more, lurking under the surface. Watch your step or they'll take you down into a different world. This is dance music, complicated. This is spoken word, run through hardship's filters. This is blues on a transatlantic flight. This is autotuned simplicity, and stripped down excess. Not everything needs to be a club banger to matter. Buy it.

Seriously, I believe "Shoplifting 4 Jesus" ranks among A3 best releases!!! I cannot stop listening to it in the car it's been on for months! I have EVERYTHING they've made, there are a few discs I just don't listen to, this is not one of them. They either speak to me or they don't. For instance, I had high expectations for "Revolver Soul", but.....meh. If you're expecting them to always sound the same, these dudes are not for you. If you are ready challenge your brain & musical psyche: put on your seat belts cuz, it's gonna be a bumpy ride....
  • A weak offering

Agree with Adam below. This album is not on par with A3's earlier offerings. I bought just a few tracks from it and IMHO they're just so-so. Nothing that makes me laugh or rock out in the way that earlier offerings have done.
