Reviews

  • Serious party grooves

David Byrne landed a winner with this one. The overall sound is an infectious mix of Latin/funk/soul grooves that work no matter what language you speak. The video for "Si Estuvieras Aqui" is hilarious; filmed in the style of a mock TV clip from an early 70s variety show, complete with overdubs of screaming girls and cheesy graphic effects, including bits of trivia about the band members scrolling along the screen in English and Spanish. If your satellite provider carries a channel called Link TV, check it out - they occasionally run hour-long blocks of world music videos, and Los Amigos get their videos played from time to time.

These songs get you on the right track in the morning. They incorporate bongo and techno-disco into a new generation of classic World Sambas and dances. Truly a nice piece of work.

I played this album endlessly when I got it. It was a great surprise and this band is by far one of my favorites. Their artistry is second to none and will get you on your feet every time, even if it's a downtempo beat. You won't regret buying this album or any of their albums, for that matter!
