This is a really nice new set of original contemporary instrumental music by a New York City-based cellist whose been perched atop his game for many years. The material seems to blend folk, blues, pop, jazz and avant-garde influences, resulting in music that sounds simultaneously familiar and new. It's actually a rather happy/joyful record. There's no grating or caustic material to challenge your patience and the compositions are melodic and spool out like a good narrative. But this is foremost a set of performances by top-notch performers. The interplay of the instruments is tight, intricate and endearing. You can definitely enjoy these cuts long term.
