Two years ago, I predicted that Kafele would one day be hailed as one of
the great jazz artists of this era. Not much later, his debut album
"Prodigal Moon" took the underground by storm. Now a commercial success,
Kafele dare not rest on his laurels. He continues to seek out only the
finest collaborations with proven musicians. Prodigal Moon was, is, one
of the sweetest vibes ever blown by a true jazz aficionado. The album
was well received, many of us left wondering if the "sophomore jinx"
would take hold of his creativity.(Be sure to check out the album Acid
Reign also). My standout favorites are "Bad Vibes" and "Sugar Didn't
Work This Time". Kafele laced both of these with traces of hip hop,
tidbits of heavy groovin' sounds!
I had to pleasure to see Kafele play in Paris,France earlier this year.
Afterwards, we sat down and discussed music, especially the indie scene.
His character is very laid back, non-competitive, and he's very
appreciative of everyone who has supported his sound. It was a pleasure
to meet Kafele in person. I credit him with introductions to other
greats such as Cherisse Scott and Tanya Reed. The connections we have
made with the music have come to bless us in the process. In the end,
artistry is about blessing the masses. Listen, enjoy, and spread the
word about your blessings. The music of Kafele will inspire you to do
nothing less than that.
