David Lee Roth is one of the best and most charismatic front men of all time. He definitely proved on this album that he didn’t necessarily need Eddie and the boys from Van Halen to make it. He put together one killer band and album! Now if we could just get the videos on iTunes!
This is one of his best

I’m a HUGE Van Halen fan and I love DLR. His on stage performance is enough to literally leave your mind blown, from his great acrobatics to his recognizable voice. My favorite song from this album is Goin’ Crazy, but the others are just as good. This song shows his personality in and out. Another good album from him is skyscraper. I also liked his cover of The Beach Boy’s “California Girls”. I’m also a Beach Boys fan as well. I could go on about how much I like him but I’ll just think it so I don’t waste time. Bottom line, I agree with reviewer Brokennin10domusic; this album is totally underrated.
Also...to remind a reviewer that said that Steve Vai is an Eddie VH knock off, he is not. Hey I love Eddie as much as any vh fan, but that doesn’t mean he is gonna go with his frontman everywhere. Steve is pretty good as well, I love the video for goin crazy, you should see Steve. DLR is the Van Halen’s best frontman there was 🎤 <3
Brilliant!!

You could put steve via with ANY band and make something happen, but I think Dave knew *no one could beat Eddie! That said, Dave made something happen here as well. GJ , and I love how he incorporated cartoons into his lyrics on this one. All around very creative CD , but not as good as VH1!
This must be remastered well!

This album was so much better than 5150 Even Eddie couldn't keep up with Steve Vai so he had to start using more keyboards, but plain and simply Eat'em and Smile was the best Rock album of 1986 and still i listen to it today!!
Better than VH at the time

This album.....coinciding with 5150 was more rock and less fluff. The VH album was good, but not as good as this album. Headlined by Yankee Rose and heavy MTV airlplay, this album stands out as one of the top Rock Albums of the 1980's.
Roth's second best solo album

iTunes does not have Roth's overlooked, but far superior, DLR Band album. I jokingly, yet seriously, refer to it as the best Van Halen album of the 90's.
Eat 'Em and Smile ain't half bad though. It comes off as a little dated all these years later. But it has some good moments. Shyboy, Yankee Rose, and Elephant Gun could all be Van Halen numbers.
I'm not sure it is better than 5150, if only because most of those songs were written with Roth before he left. I mean, who do you really think was supposed to scream, "HELLOOOO BABBBBAAAYYY!!" at the album's opening?
But I digress. Decent solo album here. Get your hands on a copy of Dave's DLR Band record if you want his best work. It's as heavy as anything he did with Ed and Al.
DLR was at his peak

Partly he hired the best band money could buy. But none of these guys had any memorable albums before or after this. They were musicians’ musicians. Shredders! DLR on the other hand was a recent graduate of the Van Halen Graduate School of Rock. 1984 was his last full-length album. Yeah! he was on top of his game, and he brought his game. Great songs. He put Van Hagar on notice, but in the end, Van Hagar was a real band, not hired guns, and thus DLR’s albums steadily declined in quality and sales. "A Different Kind of Truth” put all the theories to the test and ultimately proved, that the universe needed DLR & EVH to be on the same team.
